I just replaced a the SW server at one of my sites. To allow the server to scan the clients, I updated group policy to allow the remote administration exception and added the new server ip address of The old server IP address was It appears the group policy is applying without trouble though. I haven’t been able to confirm if this is an issue on more than this computer, though I suspect it may be.

I did notice the policy updated fine on my laptop but I am at a different site. Not sure if that makes the difference or not. I tried several things.

I am not sure which fixed it but the issue is now resolved. I did the following. Changed the Remote Administration policy to not configured, let the computers update, then enabled the setting again.

Sounds like you need to attach the GP at a higher level. Try directly attaching it at the domain level? First you need to determine exactly where the issues occur. Can you trace it to a specific OU or possibly specific departments computers?

Stupid question but I feel like it needs to be asked, have you tried rebooting the PC’s after the gpupdate? Brand Representative for Specops. Could it just be that you haven’t give the GPO enough time to replicate out to the DC’s that the other clients are talking to.

Also as bloodhoundgang mentioned, sometimes windows firewall does like a reboot before it changes anything. The GP is at the highest level and the security filter is set to domain users and domain computers. I even tried directly attaching that GP to the OU the computer was in but that didn’t make a difference.

I didn’t expect it would but I tried just for the heck of it. I think there has been enough time for the settings to replicate. I made the change late last week. RSOP still shows the old I confirmed this is happening to at least two computers that are in the same site. I can also confirm that the IP address is updated at another site for at least three computers.

I checked yet another site to confirm and the computer I checked there has the correct IP address. This looks like it is isolated to one site. This particular site, recently had it’s DC replaced. I performed that using the a machine that has the issue and a normal user.

It shows the IP address as the old one too. What, exactly, is the GP in question? Is it possible you’ve selected a wrong option so it’s just not doing anything? Update vs Replace, for instance? The GP policy setting in question is Windows Firewall: Allow inbound remote administration exception.
