We have a few straggler machines that are still running Windows 8. When I look at that item, it shows that we have computers listed that “Need” this upgrade. I approved the upgrade for our Test group as one of the machines in that group is running 81 and showed up on the list as Needing the upgrade.

However, I can’t get the upgrade to show up in Windows Update on the client at all. I do see regular 8. Do I need to go from 8. Please let me know if I can provide any other information to try to figure out why this isn’t working.

The free upgrade option expired a long long time ago. This is at work so we have enterprise licenses. I was surprised to find it in there as well and thought if I could get it to work it’d save me the trouble of figuring out how to do them manually or wait until they come into town for a reimage. Best guess is that the workstation is missing one of the updates to the Windows Update agent.

There were quite a few of those when the free 10 upgrade was being pushed so much by MS. If one of those was missed the local install might not be able to download the Windows 10 upgrade. Also, just a double check – the local install is 8. Possibly a prerequisite missing on those machines?

Occasionally I like to jump onto a client and check for updates from MS directly and see what comes up, Just in case I’ve missed an approval somewhere along the line.

You could do this from a non-remote machine. Solves a multitude of sins for me! Unable to Find Resource: ReportingEvent. Wen I point it out to Microsoft, it only finds the May Previews of rollups. I tried deleting the software distribution folder but it didn’t change anything. Long shot though! I still have WSUS 3. Can you verify that the files for that update have downloaded to the WSUS server? On the WSUS main screen does it show any updates needing files?

Is it the only WSUS server in your environment? I guess I’ll dig through the windowsupdate. Looks like we may have to install the newer files to add in GPO settings for Windows 10? I’ve never had to do that before. Hopefully this is what I need? To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
